Abington Journal-2009 Fine Dining Award
Amici owners, Sean Scanlon, Mark Massetti and Woody Wilson renovated the entire restaurant in 2008 just prior to the restaurant’s 21st anniversary. Scanlon said building renovations included remodeling the entrance hallway, stairwell, main dining room, lounge and small dining room. Two decks were added. The decks connect by a joint patio, which was also added. Scanlon said “It’s like up keeping a house, changes need to be made.” With all that has changed for Amici, so much has also remained the same. Owners Scanlon, Massetti and Wilson met and became friends when they were young teenagers, Scanlon said. When the three decided to open the restaurant in the 1980s, one of the owner’s Italian grandmother suggested using the Italian word “amici,” which mean friends. A Few of Your Friends
The Amici motto just might explain it all, testified restaurant co-owner Mark Massetti. "Run by friends for friends," it states, for all those who might feign ignorance.
"I would have to say (Amici's won) because of the setting here and because of the staff and the friendly, cozy atmosphere. We really appreciate it when people come." And people do come - every night for the past fifteen years, as a matter of fact, regular crowds have been served by a tuxedo-clad chef, owners or one of their support staff .
Massetti is also proud of the Amici's innovative menu which features, for example, fresh Chilean sea bass prepared a variety of ways. "Nothing is pre-fixed," the cooking and serving owner explained, "We do pride ourselves on getting the best foods that we can." Amici offers a total of ten specials every night in addition to its standard twenty items. The restaurant is "tucked away in a nice wooded area" off Morgan Highway, explained Massetti and presents a country setting with two fireplaces, fresh flowers, and candle light. Amici's large lounge features entertainment on weekends including Solo Tu, a duo that plays on Friday nightsand piano music on Saturdays. Buon Appetit, mio amicos.
